Rjc Discrete Test Fixture

The Analysis Tech R_jc Discrete Test Fixture is designed for Rjc testing of devices that require more package-specific heat-sinking than is afforded by the standard Rjc Liquid Test Fixture. Traditional package styles such as the venerable TO-3, familiar stud-mounted power-diodes and thyristors, as well as newer packages with integrated heat-path and terminal designs are well suited to this test fixture. Generally, devices that utilize this type of fixture require specific machining of the heat sink or access to both sides of the heat sink for electrical and mechanical connections. For devices of this type, the Rjc Discrete Test fixture provides an adaptable and flexible tool for thermal characterization.

This fixture is comprised of a fixed-base that mounts to a Rjc Liquid Test Fixture. The device under test is attached to a package-specific fixture-disk which is then fastened to the fixed-base. Each package-specific fixture-disk is specifically designed for one type of package. For some package styles, a Tc Sensor is installed on the fixture-disk for measurement of the device case temperature. For others, just a thermocouple plug is present for convenient temperature measurement of the desired reference site. Many disks are stock items while others are fabricated on a custom basis to suit particular needs. Analysis Tech engineers can provide guidance in selecting the fixture-disks.

Once the device-under-test is attached to the fixture disk and the electrical and thermocouple connections completed, the test leads are fed through the wire-chase in the base and the the fixture-disk is mounted to the base. The custom design of the fixture-disks allow nearly any type of device to be conveniently tested with a minimum of custom heat-sink fabrication. The fixture-base and fixture-disks are heavy-nickel plated for durability and consistent operation. The heating power capacity of this Rjc Discrete Fixture is limited to 400 watts when used with the Rjc Liquid Test Fixture.
