Rjc Split Plate Fixture Adapters
The Split Plate Fixture Adapters are designed for Rjc testing of discrete power devices in lead-less surface mount packages. Such devices utilize their mounting pads as both electrical and thermal pathways. The Split Plate adapter is used in conjunction with the standard Rjc Liquid Test Fixture for testing both two and three terminal devices. This fixture adapter provides intimate thermal coupling and electrical isolation. For devices of this type, the Rjc Split Plate Adapter is an effective and flexible thermal characterization tool.
This fixture adapter is comprised Half Plates and Quarter Plates, easily configured for either two or three thermal devices, that mount to the Rjc Liquid Test Fixture. When utilizing the Split Plate adapter, the device under test is carefully positioned on the electrically independent plates and then firmly clamped with the Pneumatic Clamp of the Rjc Fixture.
Quarter Plates do not have thermocouples. Half Plates are available with zero, one, or two embedded thermocouples as desired. Split Plate thermocouples are embedded flush with the Half Plate surface and located at 0.1" and/or 0.2" (2.5 or 5.0 mm) from the center edge of the Half Plate. The selection of Half Plates, number of thermocouples, and Quarter Plates is dependent on the intended devices to be tested. The heating power capacity of the Split Plate Adapter depends primarily on the on the type of Rjc fixture used.

The Rjc Split Plate Fixture Adapter for testing three-terminal devices is shown above. It is comprised of one Half Plate and one Quarter Plate Pair. The Half Plate is normally supplied with one thermocouple although It is shown here with the two thermocouple option. It is capable of handling a power dissipation of up to 120 watts when used with the Rjc Liquid Test Fixture. Quarter Plates are sold in pairs (2).

The Rjc Split Plate Fixture Adapter for testing two-terminal devices is shown above. It is comprised of two Half Plates, each of which can be ordered with zero, one, or two thermocouples. It is capable of handling a power dissipation of up to 150 watts when used with the Rjc Liquid Fixture.
A complete set of plates for testing both three terminal and two terminal devices would be comprised of two Half Plates and one Quarter Plate Pair. Typically, one half plate would be purchased with two thermocouples and one Half Plate with zero or one thermocouple.
