TIM Tester Features

The Analysis Tech Thermal Interface Material (TIM) Testers measure thermal impedance and thermal conductivity in moderate-to-high conductivity materials. Designed for measurement of thermal interface materials used in electronic packaging, the testers conform to the ASTM D5470 test method while incorporating thermal structure-function analysis to improve measurement speed and accuracy. Typical test durations are just 10-15 minutes.

Automated Testing with WinTIM Software

All testing parameters and procedures are fully controlled by the included WinTIM visual software. Contact pressure, sample temperature, and other test conditions are automatically regulated according to the operator's test selections, optimizing measurement accuracy while minimizing test time.

Data output is presented simply text, Microsoft Excel, and graphical formats, including plots of thermal data versus sample thickness or pressure. The software also calculates surface contact thermal resistance and thermal conductivity. (Refer to Case Studies for example data)

Advanced Measurement Capabilities

The TIM Tester features electronic in-situ thickness measurement, allowing specimen thickness to be measured during testing for improved accuracy. Testing can be performed in either controlled-pressure mode (Type II and III materials) or controlled-thickness mode (Type I and II materials). Phase change materials are supported through the integrated pre-test bake function.

User-Friendly Software

The WinTIM software includes comprehensive help files, on-screen guidance, and continuous system monitoring, enabling new users to become productive quickly without specialized training. The software also provides detailed diagnostic messages and operational guidance whenever required.

Calibration and Verification

Each TIM Tester includes calibration equipment and a reference sample package for convenient on-site calibration and long-term performance verification. Reference samples provide documented accuracy checks and consistency monitoring. However, reference samples are not required for material testing, since ASTM D5470 is an absolute measurement method and not relative to any known reference samples.
